Fun Jewelry Trends For Fall 2013 To Amp Up Your Style
This year has been an explosion for both new and recurring retro trends with the fall season just around the corner. With that in mind, get ready for more trends to come that can be worn from the runway to real life. Fun and creative shape designs in the form of geometrics or animals, bold colors, and raw materials are just a couple of words to sum up the jewelry so far for 2013 and for the rest of the year.
Statement Pieces: Anything but Boring
Jewelry for 2013 demands to be noticed and statement pieces grab the right amount of attention. The bolder and the larger the size of the piece of jewelry, the better and the more trendy the style appears. Not just a single large pendant is needed to stand out, but several are grouped together in geometric shapes such as triangles, circles, or a combination. A very popular pendent shape design includes “bubbles” that crescendo from small to large circles and singular to several “bubbles” that is available in just one or even several different shades.
Not just large pendants, but the chains of a bracelet or necklace are bolder this year as well. Consider the different sizes and lengths of chains for necklaces, bracelets, and hair pieces you already see on the runaway.
Cute Animals Are Not Just for Kids Anymore
When you were younger, you might have grown up wearing plastic jewelry and fake earrings with adorable animals. 2013 takes a stroll down memory lane and it is more popular than ever before to wear jewelry, especially necklaces, adorned with animals. The most popular animal right now is hand downs the owl (which have been popular since about 2010 already) and if you want to purchase a piece of jewelry with this bird, you don’t have to go to many places to find it.
Other popular animals include those found in jungles such as:
- Elephants
- Giraffes
- Jaguars or Cheetahs
Pandas, snakes, or simply a cat; even Hello Kitty are just as popular right now. Have you been on the internet lately or checked out the latest hipster trends? Cats are everywhere anyways.
Wake Up to Color
The jewelry trends 2013 has brought us include plenty of color. If black is your go-to as a part of your wardrobe, then most likely you include color in some way to your accessories to avoid looking drab and there is plenty of colors to choose from. Each year, Pantone decides on a “color of the year” that predicts which color and other shades will be popular for the entire year. This year it was emerald and other jewel toned colors from ruby to sapphire have been popular as well.
As bold as jewel-tone is, 2013 cannot get enough of highlighter shades of yellow, orange, and pink that screamed “Spring Break” earlier this year. These highlighter colors were not used subtly either in accordance with the latest tribal trend that continues the geometric pattern that has been popular in fashion this year. You may no longer see colors as bright as this for fall though as they are toned to softer shades that are easier on the eyes.
Retro is Here
Bold color and futuristic designs of the 80s and 90s may be back in style again, but the retro look is going much farther back than that with recurring 20s and 30s jewelry, possibly thanks to a remake of The Great Gatsby and the romanticism of that era this year. 2013’s retro look has steered away from the use of silver and gold and has been replaced with beautiful shades of rose gold.
Even though bold colors are very popular at the moment; pastel shades of mint, lavender, and petal pink create a feminine and soft image to any look. Pair with rose gold, creams, and pear tones for classic chic.
Go Bohemian with a Natural, Not Plastic Look
Plastic jewelry is very trendy right now, but so is the use of raw materials such as wood and stones for a more natural and bohemian look. Necklaces and bracelets are staying true to the tribal and geometric style has well with unique carved designs. Stones, pebbles, or jewels are entwined by wire for a homemade look.
Two (or more) is Better than One
A single piece of jewelry may already be layered, such as the bubble necklace, but stacking several key pieces with different designs and colors is very popular and will be a continued trend. The designs can either be different or extremely similar but many people keep the basic colors the same such as selecting gold or silver and shades of a particular color or two.
If you decide to stack different necklaces, try to stack them in descending layers with different chain lengths. Select short lengths and add necklaces that are long enough that you can double the necklace for more layers if you wish. No need to stack too many to complete this look; three to five different pieces should suffice. Just be sure not to leave the house looking too cluttered. Instead of stacking jewelry on every free limb with bracelets, necklaces and rings, just select one area to focus on.
Cuff It
Layering bracelets is in, but simply alone, cuffs are as well. Whether they are made of metal or cloth adorned with different jewels and colors; cuffs can add to different looks from punk to bohemian. Be sure to be on the lookout for these this upcoming fall and winter season.
With so many different fashion trends this year, it’s hard not to fall in love with all of them and decide which one to wear each day. Stay true to your style and if you want, incorporate these trends into your wardrobe. It’s hard to know how long they will stay in stores so be sure to take advantage of buying your favorite accessories while they are still available.
